  Orange Answer Phone.

Big changes were made last year to the already excellent Answer Phone service (given free to all Orange subscribers). From July 3rd 1996, Orange provided "..a number of new improved Answer Phone features at no extra monthly cost."

The new changes are detailed below. We also have an exclusive interactive user guide, which makes it easy to navigate your way through the Answer Phone options.

send your messages direct
Whilst connected to your Answer Phone, you can also send voice messages direct to the Answer Phone of your friends and colleagues who have Orange phones: for instance, when you don't have time for a long conversation; when you know they won't want to be disturbed by a ringing phone; or when they might find it easier to listen to a message rather than referring to a document.

broadcasting messages to groups
Your Answer Phone will allow you to set up group lists of Orange users to enable you to broadcast the same message to the whole group simultaneously. A group list will be allocated a number. Every time you want to broadcast a message to this group, simply key in this number instead of a phone number and record your message.

future delivery
You can choose the time and date that you want to send your message up to 30 days ahead. So if you want to send another Orange user a message to arrive when you are on holiday - or even to yourself to remind you of an appointment - just dial 123, select option 2 and follow the recorded instructions.

forwarding a message
There may be times when you listen to a message and you want someone else to hear it as well. You can now forward the message to an individual or to a group of Orange users by simply keying in their Orange phone number or group number and following the recorded instructions. You also have the option to add your own comments at the beginning.

sending messages marked private
Alternatively, if you don't want the message you're sending to be forwarded on to another Orange user, simply select the "private" option before you send it.

replying to a message
When you receive a message sent directly to your Answer Phone from another Orange phone, you will be able to reply without having to key in the sender's Orange number.

re-recording a message
Your Orange Answer Phone now gives you and your callers the option to listen to messages before they are sent. If the message is not as intended, it can be recorded again.

fast forward / pause / rewind control
You can now save time by fast forwarding and rewinding your messages. Press 7 for rewind, 8 for pause or 9 for fast forward as you listen.

storing messages
Your Orange Answer Phone holds new messages for you for 21 days. When you have listened to a message, simply delete it or save it it for up to 4 days.

voice messaging functions as standard
All these additional features now come as standard from Orange Answer Phone and there is no monthly charge. Whenever you call your Answer Phone you will be charged at only 7.5p (plus VAT) per minute. These calls are not part of your inclusive minutes.

A basic guide to using Orange Answer Phone.

Why read this when you can use our exclusively Interactive guide?!

To access the Orange Answer Phone service from your Orange telephone, simply dial 123 (or +44973100123 from abroad). You will then immediately be put into your personal mailbox. At this time you will either be told how many messages you have waiting, or be asked to enter your PIN number.

To access the Orange Answer Phone service from a non-Orange telephone, dial 0973 100123 (or +44973100123 from abroad). You will then be asked to enter your Orange phone number, followed by your PIN number. To "speed-dial", you can enter your telephone number and PIN in one sequence by using "#" at the end of each sequence. For example, dial 0973 100123 - wait for the welcome message then enter "0973123456#1234#".

By default, all Orange subscribers will now only have to enter their password when accessing their mailbox from a phone other than their own. However, you MUST have set up your own personal number direct from your telephone first. If you never set up a password, you will be unable to listen to messages from a landline.

To set up a password, from the main menu - press 3 and 2.

If you would like to enable the password option, so that you will need to enter it even when calling from your own phone, from the main menu - press 3, 6 and 1. This option serves as a toggle to enable and disable the service.

To listen to new messages, or saved ones, from the main menu - press 1.

New messages will be played in the order that they were received.

At any time during the playback, you have the following options available to you;

* - Return to the main menu.
2 - Save the message (for seven days).
3 - Delete the message (will be deleted as soon as you hang up).
7 - Go back 10 seconds.
8 - Pause (press 8 to continue).
9 - Go forward 10 seconds.
# - Go to the next message.
Notes;
  1. If you delete a message, you CAN still recover it during the current call. Once you are back to the main menu, press 1 again to listen to the messages. You will then hear new messages, saved messages and finally deleted messages. You can also press 2 to save deleted messages.
  2. If you want to listen to messages quickly, you can take advantage of the ability to select options even while the voice prompts are being given. For example, if you have 3 new messages - instead of waiting for all of the information to be given at the start, just hit 9 straight after pressing 1 (for new messages) and the new message will play straight away. You can then save/delete the message and hit 9 straight after - the next message will then play. And so on.
  3. If you do not save or delete your new messages before hanging up, the tape icon will remain on your phone display even if there are no "new" messages waiting. Therefore, make sure that you press either 2 or 3 at the end of each message.
